    Provided Abby’s House with management consulting, with help from a colleague: facilitated a strategic planning process, & helped to hire 2 staff (Executive Director & 2 development staff) for Abby Kelley Foster House, Inc. (Abby’s House) provides emergency shelter and other essential services for women over 18 years old in the greater Worcester community.

    Facilitated, with help from a colleague, 6 strategic sessions which helped to map the future of this unusual collaborative effort over the next three years for Baby U, which is modeled on the Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) Baby College program, targets parents with children pre-natal to age 3.

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of Massachusetts

    Provided Foundation with strategic assistance by leading two capacity-building programs: the Massachusetts Institute for Community Health Leadership (MICHL) and the Community Partnerships leadership (CoPaLS). Designed and facilitated annual staff retreats to help identify common ground and develop effective communication systems needed to form a cohesive team. Provided ongoing management assistance to the Foundation President through weekly phone calls, periodic conference calls and on-site meetings. Designed and facilitated a retreat with the Board and Foundation President, where they developed a plan for the Foundation’s next steps in Health Care Access.

    Designed and facilitated training of trainers’ workshop for organizers and activists in peace community.

  • Lasell Neighborhood Association

    Coached the leadership of a neighborhood association as they implemented a campaign plan to gain approval for a local historic district.

  • Local 509

    Designed and implemented a 10-month campaign plan of political action for a public sector employees union. The campaign was successful at increasing the level of political activity of union leaders and members. Membership lists were cleaned and called at phone banks to increase union participation in state legislative races and to increase union participation in the governor’s race. Jean hired and supervised a staff of three additional political consultants to help union leaders and members achieve their campaign goals.

  • Long Term Strategy Project

    Designed and managed a start-up plan to open a Cambridge office for a DC think tank. From hiring the chief of staff, to choosing phone and IT vendors, Jean managed the process and advised the client on all key decisions.  Every detail was on her list – she chose wall and carpet colors and purchased office furniture. Jean kept all expenses within the projects budget and all work was completed with the timeline.

  • M.J.T. Dance Company

    Designed and facilitated the annual meeting and Board of Directors retreat of inner-city dance company.

  • Massachusetts Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs (MABGC)

    Designed and facilitated a shared buy-in process for the MABGC Outcome Performance Project.  Worked with the MABGC President to recruit 9 executive directors of clubs to join a leadership task force to help lead the project – review the interview questions, analyze the data gathered & develop recommendations for the next steps in the project.  The goal of the project was to bring together the 41 clubs to work on a common agenda for measuring some of their performance outcomes.

    Organized and prioritized time of staff in statewide, membership, citizens’ action organization.

  • Maverick Landing Community Services (MLCS)

    Designed and facilitated a process to hire MLCS a new Executive Director.  Coach the Executive Director as she changes staffing patterns, improves administrative infrastructure and develops new, more effective programming.  Designs and facilitates strategic planning process with Board & staff.

    Designed and facilitated a strategic Planning workshop at the annual meeting of N.H. Day Care Center for abused and homeless kids.

    Worked as a coach for the management team of a worker-owned print shop, helping them to improve their management skills and to redesign their staff structure. Added two positions and facilitated process for press staff to be supervised and represented in the management team.

    Assisted in the design and facilitation of a process to change the way money was distributed to the workers by developing new guidelines and new pay scales.

  • Association of State Public Health Nutritionists (ASPHN)

    Designs and facilitates an 8 month ASPHN Leadership Program for members throughout the country.  Staffs the ASPHN Task Force on Mentoring 101 whose goal it is to help ASPHN leaders and emerging leaders to move to become mentors and mentees.  Designed and facilitated leadership development section of mid-year Board meetings and Annual meetings.  Worked with the consultants and the Board of Directors helping them to improve their management skills and organizational structure.   • Saving Lives Program, Massachusetts

    Led the development and implementation of effective Action Plans to improve the chances of successful institutionalization and self-sufficiency of six national pilot programs throughout Massachusetts. Assistance was provided to all local coordinators and their assistants through monthly training sessions and on-site visits. The Saving Lives program aims to reduce the number of car crashes, save lives, and minimize traffic-related injuries by strengthening the individual and collective resolve within a community to use automobiles safely. It is based on the idea that coordinated efforts by various groups—such as city officials, business people, the media, civic groups, school teachers, students and their parents, and law enforcement officers—can result in lasting change in attitudes and behaviors of community residents. These pilot programs were supported with a five-year, 2.8 million dollar public (NHTSA)/private (Commonwealth Fund) partnership grant.
